Meet the Team

Becka Jackson

Becka Jackson

Managing Editor

Becka is a freshman at UNCW hoping to study Creative Writing and Publishing. She has known since she was a child that she would someday write a book, but she has yet to figure out what sort of book it will be. She loves animals of all sorts. Her goals include watching every Johnny Depp movie in existence, taking a road trip through the South, and reading a classic French novel–untranslated.

Hailey Black

Hailey Black

Photography Editor

Hailey Black is a senior double majoring in Studio Art and Art History and her interest in photography began when she was around twelve years old. She has been working as the Photography Editor for Atlantis since 2014. She absolutely loves looking at other people’s photos because it gives her and *Atlantis*’s viewers a glimpse at the world through their eyes. Hailey likes to paint and weld in her spare time, as well drink wine, and sometimes those activities coincide. She likes downtown Wilm, fuzzy blankets, Italian food, and sharpie markers. Also, she’s a dog mom and she loves it.

Raja Jalernpan

Raja Jalernpan

Web Developer

Currently a sophomore at UNCW, Raja Jalernpan is pursing a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with a minor in Theatre. When not acting as the Web Developer and “techy” for Atlantis, Raja can be found working in the theatre field as a stage manager and lighting designer. He also serves as the choreographer for various performance organizations on campus.

Nikki Kroushl

Nikki Kroushl

Copy Editor

Nikki is a freshman at UNCW, studying Creative Writing, English, and German. Her other interests include costuming, pasta, em dashes, cats, and unnecessarily intricate planners. She’s at her happiest when she’s at her busiest, and she is beyond excited to be working on Atlantis alongside its talented staff.

Caroline Orth

Caroline Orth

Poetry Editor

Caroline Orth is a poet and editor, pursuing majors in English and Creative Writing and a Certificate in Publishing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. In addition to her Poetry Editor post with Atlantis, she serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Second Story, an honors art and literature journal published out of the UNCW Honors College. Her favorite poem today is “Love Poem” by Jon Sands. Someone once told her she was a force to be reckoned with. She hopes and fears that this can still be true.

Chris Livernois

Chris Livernois

Editor-in-Cheif

Chris Livernois is studying Creative Writing and English. His spare time is spent playing guitar, eating chicken nuggets, writing poetry while waiting in line at Cook-Out, and pointing out grammar/spelling mistakes (like Raja’s spelling of “chief”). His life goals are to become a novelist and to host the Kids’ Choice Awards.

Layne Smith

Layne Smith

Promotions Coordinator

Layne is a sophomore at UNCW, majoring in Communications Studies with a double minor in Spanish and Digital Arts. She is the vice president of the UNCW Writers’ Association and a member of the Honors College and Sigma Delta Pi. She plans to go into advertising and digital media production.

Ryan Budd

Ryan Budd

Prose Editor

Ryan Budd writes nonfiction, prose, and poetry and has been on staff with Atlantis since his sophomore year. He majors in both Creative Writing and Business Marketing and will graduate in the spring of 2016. Ryan has published four poems and two short stories and is completing his first collection of poetry. He received an honorable mention from the poet laureate of North Carolina in the Charlotte Writers’ Club’s Anthony Abbott Undergraduate Poetry Competition and currently works for UNCW’s Office of Transition Programs, teaching freshman seminar.
